Skipping across the sidewalk outside the ivy-covered building that housed most of the classrooms for Rosedale Community College, Hanna grinned. Everything about this place made her want to burst out signing. Hanna was regularly a bubbly child, but it was even better when she had something to be bubbly about. And now she was on her way to her photography class, which was one of her favorite things in the world.
There were two things Hanna wanted to do with her life. She would take one or the other, but she'd rather do both and therefore she was being schooled for both. She wanted to be a professional photographer and an English teacher. Hanna had been taking pictures and writing stories to go along with them ever since she could remember. When she was younger, she had wanted to write children's books, but she didn't know if she could do something like that anymore. It wasn't what she wanted now.
Hanna grinned wide as she stepped foot into the warm, luxurious building and walked down the stairs to the basement room that was her black and white photography class. It was a gorgeous place and it always made her feel special. Even though there were thirty-some people in the class, Hanna felt like she was the only person in the world when she was in this class. It was like the whole rest of the world just faded into the background.
Their assignment from the previous day had been to choose any item in nature and capture it's beauty in black and white. Hanna had been stressing out about the project a bit. The closest you got to "nature" in Rosedale was the potted flowers that sat on your windowsill. However, right as she was about to go to bed the night before and succumb to the fact that she was going to have to take a zero on this particular assignment, she noticed that a ladybug had somehow gotten into her apartment and was now resting precariously on the faucet of her stainless steel sink.
Careful to turn the flash off, Hanna had grabbed her brand new Nikon camera, a Christmas present from her parents, and quickly snapped a few black and white shots, focusing solely on the ladybug. They had come out gorgeously, and before going to bed Hanna had hooked the camera up to her photo printer and printed out a high-resolution version of the picture on photo paper. Now, she had both the print version and the one on her camera to reveal to the teacher and the rest of the class today.
Looking around, Hanna noticed how uneasy the rest of the class looked. She assumed most of them had given up as she almost had and resigned to taking a zero. Though Hanna wasn't entirely religious, she did believe in God and recognized a miracle when she saw one. And this was most certainly a miracle.
